Bear Hole is a 1400-acre conservation parcel in West Springfield. It contains the Bear Hole Reservoir and over 30 miles of trails. The trails range from wide flat gravel roads to tight twisty single tracks. Trails close to the water are remarkably stone free, almost like trails on Cape Cod, because of a similar glacial sand dump.
The green trails are quite approachable, even for newer riders. They contain an almost uncountable number of twists and turns. The blue trails are harder, similar to the green trails but with more difficult sections. The black trails have yet to be mapped.
Bear Hole is a great place to explore. But don’t expect to do it all in one day.
